The State Transportation Board on Friday awarded a $106 million construction project to build a “free-flowing traffic interchange” for Interstate 40 and US 93 in Kingman.
The project on the heavily traveled route between Phoenix and Las Vegas is designed to improve safety, travel times and reliability, officials stated in a release.
With the contract awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel Co. during the board’s March 15 meeting, construction is expected to begin this summer and take 2.5 years, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Currently, vehicles must stop at a traffic signal where Beale Street intersects with I-40. The system-to-system interchange will feature ramps that allow traffic to flow freely, transportation officials said.
The interchange is designed to handle projected traffic growth for the next 25 years.
