Apache Junction Prospectors defeat Dons, 6-1

Posted

The Apache Junction High School Prospectors (3-7) faced the Coronado Dons (0-8) for the second time in four days on March 27. The Prospectors won their first matchup away from home. 14-1.

The game picked up some traction in the third inning. The top half was plagued by baserunning mistakes from the Dons, as a failed attempt to steal third base along with a runner getting caught out at home after trying to advance on an error took away multiple opportunities.

The bottom half of the inning is when the bats came alive. Freshman Connor Trisoliere knocked his second hit of the game, and his first of two RBI’s to drive in the first run. The Prospectors used this momentum and swung four across.

Sophomore Dylan Hunsaker and Freshman Ryan Haselhorst were able to combine and close the game out. Haselhorst was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam with only one out in the sixth inning, in which they recorded back-to-back strikeouts to spoil any chance at a Dons comeback.

The Prospectors knocked 10 hits, three of which were from Connor Trisoliere, as they helped lead the Prospectors to their third straight win.

As the Prospectors head into the final month of the season, they are looking to make a final push into the playoffs. However, they will need to string some more win streaks together before that conversation becomes a reality.
