Andrews: Texas cop passed the buck after school shooting

Posted

Passing the buck is what politicians do best.

Unfortunately, passing the buck has even rubbed off on the police chief who was responsible for responding to that terrible child massacre in Uvalde, Texas.

Yes, I read today that Pete Arredondo said he did not consider himself the person in charge as the classroom carnage continued. Truly a shocking admission. This by an officer who had attended two active shooter training classes and was the head of a unit specifically tasked with protecting school children.

If he was not responsible then who was?

I think this quote accurately defines true responsibility: “Responsibility is a unique concept ... You may share it with others, but your portion is not diminished.

You may delegate it, but it is still with you... If responsibility is rightfully yours, no evasion, or ignorance or passing the blame can shift the burden to someone else. Unless you can point your finger at the man who is responsible when something goes wrong, then you have never had anyone really responsible.” — Hyman G. Rickover
