Two suspects have been indicted in the deaths of three people whose bodies were found following a July 15 apartment fire in Ahwatukee, county officials said.

Chase Christman, 30, and Dorian Rice, 53, face first-degree murder charges in the deaths, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

On July 15, Phoenix police responded to an apartment fire near 48th Street and Warner Road. Once the fire was extinguished, detectives found three bodies inside. Each victim showed signs of trauma, including gunshot and stab wounds. Three pets also died in the fire, an MCAO release stated.

“Evidence developed by police placed the defendant, Chase Christman, at the scene. Further investigation identified a second individual, Dorian Rice, as an accomplice in this case,” the release stated.

The grand jury indicted Christman and Rice for the following crimes:

  • Three counts of first-degree murder.
  • One count of burglary in the first degree.
  • One count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
  • Three counts of armed robbery.

Christman also was indicted on two counts of misconduct involving weapons, three counts of intentionally killing a domestic animal and one count of arson on an occupied structure, according to the county release.

Both defendants are being held on a $5 million cash-only bond.
