AAUW slates speaker for education-themed meeting

Posted

The American Association of University Women, Northwest Valley branch, will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 to discuss “Educational Equity” and “Treasures for Dysart Teachers” at the Sun City West Foundation Webb Room, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd.

Speaker is Teresa Leyba Ruiz, Ed.D., senior vice president and chief advocacy and programs officer of Education Forward Arizona.

Ruiz joined Education Forward Arizona as senior vice president and chief advocacy and programs officer. She is responsible for leading their education advocacy efforts and will oversee scholarship and advising programs that serve Arizona students.

Her work aligns with their goals of driving equitable access for more Arizona students to postsecondary attainment and supporting them once they enroll in a higher education institution.

Prior to joining Education Forward Arizona, Ruiz retired as the president of Glendale Community College in the Maricopa County Community College District.

In keeping with the double January themes, principals from two elementary schools in the Dysart Unified School District will also attend.
