$9M HUD loan helps Phoenix apartment complex save energy

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced a $9.12 million loan to Urban League Manor Apartments to improve energy efficiency.
The announcement was made this month and was called a “pivotal step to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in affordable housing,” according to a HUD release.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our commitment to promote energy efficiency and resilience in affordable housing,” Jason Pu, HUD Pacific regional administrator, said.
“The $9.12 million loan will transform Urban League Manor into a model of sustainability and enhance the quality of life for residents.”
The funding for the Phoenix complex is provided through HUD's Green and Resilient Retrofit Program and will support:
Installation of energy-efficient windows and doors.
Implementation of solar power systems.
Upgrades to insulation, reflective roofs and weatherproofing.
Incorporation of smart building technologies for enhanced energy management.
HUD’s GRRP is a national effort aimed at promoting sustainable and resilient affordable housing and has resulted in $610 million in grants and surplus cash awards to apartment communities in 36 states and the District of Columbia, the release stated.
Urban League Manor is the only recipient in Arizona.
