4-vehicle collision kills man in West Valley

Posted

A 27-year-old man is dead and another man is in critical condition following a Friday night collision involving four vehicles near 52nd Avenue and Van Buren Street, Phoenix police said.

The West Valley crash happened about 8:30 p.m. April 5.

Phoenix officers found two men drivers with serious injuries. Daniel Barcelo, 27, was taken to a hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The other driver was taken to a hospital and is in critical condition with serious injuries, according to a release.

Authorities said four vehicles were involved in the collision.  The drivers of the other two vehicles involved did not suffer any injuries.

Preliminary information suggests that the vehicle driven by Barcelo was westbound on Van Buren Street in the area of 52nd Avenue, “when for unknown reasons it crossed into oncoming traffic striking the other three vehicles involved,” police said.

All three of the other vehicles were heading east on Van Buren Street at the time of the collision.

Additional details about the collision remain part of the ongoing investigation, according to the release.
