Two Apache Junction residents filed their petitions and paperwork by the April 4 deadline for mayor and six for council to run in the Aug. 22 election, according to City Clerk Jennifer Peña.
They are:
Office of mayor: Mohiuddin Mehmood and Chip Wilson.
Office of council member: Darryl Cross, Ari Kalan, Robert Schroeder and Bryan Soller.
The following had filed statements of interest to run, Peña said:
Office of mayor: Charles Austin, Mehmood and Wilson.
Office of councilmember: Cross, Kalan, Jaime Lanza, George Schroeder, Robert Schroeder and Soller.
Packets containing the legally required documents needed to run for a seat on the Apache Junction City Council were available at the City Clerk’s Office, Building C, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.
To be eligible for the Aug. 2, 2022, primary election ballot, the completed packets needed to be filed no later than 5 p.m. April 4, 2022. Each candidate needed to submit nomination petitions containing between 705 and 1,409 valid signatures of qualified city electors. Packets which were incomplete or received after the filing date were not to be accepted. The city is using the Arizona Secretary of State’s E-qual system for online signature collection.
The City Clerk’s Office is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, excluding holidays.
