Arizona Sens. Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema recently announced the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community was awarded more than $610,000 in federal grant resources investing in expanded transit options, including low and no-emission buses.
The $611,840 grant supports Salt River in purchasing or leasing low and no-emission buses and other transit vehicles that use advanced technologies, according to a press release.
Funds will go toward such things as battery electric and fuel-cell power, to provide cleaner, more energy-efficient transit services in the community, the release said.
“This investment will support the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s efforts to create sustainable transportation that connects the community to jobs and services by replacing older diesel buses with new, low-emission vehicles,” said Kelly in a prepared statement.
“These resources for innovative and energy-efficient buses will boost local economic opportunities and support Salt River jobs,” said Sinema.
