“Reefer Madness,” and its firmly planted-in-cheek tongue, is coming to Scottsdale.
Inspired by the original 1936 fear film of the same name, “Reefer Madness” is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary that takes a playful look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence.
The musical is performed by Scottsdale Community Players, with adult actors ages 18-25, and opens at 7 p.m. Friday, July 23 at The Historic Stagebrush Theatre, 7020 E. 2nd St., Scottsdale. The show runs through Sunday, Aug. 1.
The production is based on the book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, and directed by Pete Bish.
The cast features Jack Walton (as Jimmy Harper), Trevon Powell (Lecturer), Cate Carlino (Mary Lane), Hayden Skaggs (Jack Stone), Tawny Audi (Mae), Max Mendoza (Ralph Wiley) and Ainsley Orozco (Sally). The ensemble includes Mirka Caceres, Ava Siegel, Andru Moeller, Anthony Enoch, Allie Rose, Rebecca Bauer and McKenzie Jessen.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday, July 23; 7 p.m. Saturday, July 24; 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25; 7 p.m. Friday, July 30; 7 p.m. Saturday, July 31; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1.
Tickets are $22.
