Woman dies at scene of head-on car, city bus crash: Phoenix PD

Posted

A 31-year-old woman died Monday morning after police said it appears she drove onto the wrong side of North 19th Avenue and her car collided with a Phoenix city bus.

The crash that killed Melody Stewart occurred just after 9 a.m. April 29 in the 12600 block of North 19th Avenue, police said. Fire personnel arrived, but Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several people were on the bus, and one was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a release.

After their initial investigation, detectives said they learned the car was heading north on 19th Avenue from Cactus Road when it veered onto the southbound lanes and into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided into the west curb just before hitting the bus head-on.

An investigation is continuing.
