Jesse Johnson has been terminated by the Phoenix Police Department for a shooting that killed a 34-year-old man.
Interim Police Chief Michael Sullivan announced the decision April 10.
A release from the department said the shooting was “out-of-policy.”
The shooting occurred in September 2022 near Glendale and 19th avenues where police said rocks were thrown at officers and patrol cars by Ali Osman, 34. Johnson was one of the officers who shot at Osman.
The release said “the decision was not made lightly but was done after careful consideration of all the facts.
“The Phoenix Police Department must hold its employees to the highest standards, conduct and accountability.”
The former employee has the right to appeal this decision to the Civil Service Board.
