Phoenix knife fight turns deadly, 1 victim identified

Detectives are piecing together evidence from a knife fight this week that left a 34-year-old man dead and another fighting for his life in the hospital, Phoenix police said.

Officers were called to a stabbing near 16th Street and Indian School Road about 8 p.m. Aug. 19 and found a man suffering from a stab wound. The man, indentified as Efren Partida, was rushed to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Officers detained two people at the scene who were believed to be involved in the fight.

While responding to the location, police said homicide investigators learned a man walked into a nearby hospital with stab wounds. The man is currently listed in critical but stable condition, according to a release.

Detectives were able to link the man to the original scene, police said, and preliminary information suggests both victims were in an argument at a convenience store when each pulled out a knife. The fight led to the injuries.

Detectives will interview the surviving victim once he recovers, police said, and the identity of the man who died will be released once next-of-kin notifications are made.
