Man, 66, dies in Phoenix house fire; arson detectives investigate

A 66-year-old man died this week in a house fire near 2200 East Monterey Way, and Phoenix police and arson detectives are investigating.

Police responded about 12:40 p.m. June 27 to the fire and assisted with traffic control as firefighters fought the blaze.  After it was extinguished, Terrence Smithers was found dead inside the home.

Details into what caused the fire and death of the victim remain under investigation.
