Girl fights for life after being rescued from Phoenix pool: PD

An 11-year-old girl was rescued from a pool Sunday afternoon after her hair became caught in a underwater fixture, Phoenix police said.

The girl was in critical/life-threatening condition, police said Monday in a release.

The 11-year-old was playing pool volleyball in the 1500 block of West Whitton Avenue when someone noticed she was underwater.

A family member jumped into the pool and found her hair was caught on the fixture. Other adults entered the pool to free her. CPR was begun, and 911 was called.

Authorities said the girl was reported to be a strong swimmer and termed the incident a “tragic accident.”
