3 Phoenix Xavier Prep students named U.S. Presidential Scholar Candidates

Posted

Three seniors at Xavier College Preparatory have been named candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Sonya Colattur, Monica Nitu and Annabel Ohman were selected on the basis of their achievements.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, to honor and recognize some of the country’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Each year, up to 161 students are named U.S. Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

The majority of students are selected on the basis of broad academic achievement and having scored exceptionally well on the SAT or ACT, a press release notes. The program represents excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people.

In April, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars reviews the applications of all semifinalists and selects the final Presidential Scholars.

Xavier College Preparatory is an all-girls Catholic high school located at 4710 N. 5th St. in Phoenix.
