Stidd: Be on lookout for Sun City scammers

Posted

I am an elderly resident in Sun City and am usually able to recognize a scammer. However, I recently was approached in my yard by a couple who stated they were in the business of epoxy for floors and driveways. Of course they had a “deal you can’t afford to not take advantage of,” stating their product was guaranteed to not chip even when it was rained on for 15 years.

They promised to take everything out of my garage and patio, epoxy and seal both areas and return all items to both areas. They explained that they had done a job and had “extra” epoxy that they could not return (the previous resident paid for this “extra” product), and they could do my job for $1,500. And make money to pocket for themselves, telling the owner of Done Right Epoxy and the customer that they had used it all on the last job.

They moved the contents of my garage and patio into my yard and Marie taped off the walls.

The project went fast as I informed them that there was a rain prediction. Gray again assured me the rain would not crack or chip it after it was sealed. As Gray (alias Gary) was finishing the epoxy coat, it began to rain.

They quickly jumped into their truck and drove away, without applying a sealer to the floors nor any of the contents of both areas being returned but everything was left in my yard. They also did not leave a receipt explaining what the $1,500 included or a guarantee for the job/epoxy.

Gray requested a check since it was 4:45 on Friday afternoon and I gave it to him with his promise to return to finish job.

A card was provided with the name of Done Right Epoxy and a fake burner number. I have called and left numerous messages and sent numerous texts with no response.

Sun City residents — be on the lookout for these scammers.
