PUSD preps to officially accept Lake Pleasant Heights school site donation

The Peoria Unified School District will officially accept a donation of land for an elementary school in north Peoria later this week.

The district's governing board will accept a study for the 15-acre parcel south of the southeast corner of Garambullo Drive and Westland Boulevard in the Lake Pleasant Heights planned community. The board will vote on the approval as part of its consent agenda for its Thursday, Sept. 8, meeting.

Intially accepted during its July meeting, the final donation of the site requires a feasibility study to ensure the land can house an elementary school. With that in hand, the district can accept the land from Lake Pleasant (Phoenix) ASLI VII LLC, an entity traced to Pennsylvania-based Avanti Properties Group.

Lake Pleasant Heights is a master-planned community south of State Route 74 and to the northeast of the Vistancia community. It is 3,268 acres.

Developers of the community projected a need for at least two elementary schools, with a yet-to-be-built high school in Vistancia serving those students.

The district's northern area has struggled with overcrowding at its schools, and officials have authorized a $125 million bond be placed on the November ballot. Part of that will be to buy land for a high school in the district's northern reaches, accoridng to information from the distrcit regarding the bond.
