The lion’s share of the growth in Peoria during the past decade has taken place in the northern part of the city.
The Mesquite District, which currently runs from roughly Happy Valley Road to Lake Pleasant, experienced the biggest population increase out of all Peoria council districts, now with a population of 47,209, making up nearly 25% of the city’s residents, according to Census 2020.
Along with the growth has come increased firefighter overtime due to the pandemic, and the need to ensure fire protection to all areas of north Peoria.
