Construction of Liberty neighborhood park in Peoria begins

Posted

Liberty neighborhood park located in The Meadows community at Camino A Lago in north Peoria has begun construction.

It is expected to open in October.

The park, located at 97th Avenue and Williams Road, will include shaded playgrounds and picnic ramadas, a restroom, walking trails, multi-use turf, pickleball courts, a large sports field for baseball or soccer, and oversized parking.

Residents placed high priority on an illuminated sports field and pickleball courts to support sports programs in north Peoria, according to city documents.

To augment the park funding, the city applied for and received a grant for LED sports lighting from the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority. The matching grant will provide two-thirds of the funding for the LED sports lighting. The city must fund the entirety of the lighting and seek reimbursement upon completion.

City council recently approved a reimbursement to Toll Brothers Inc. in an amount not to exceed $243,416 for costs related to the construction of the park.

The Meadows at Camino A Lago master planned community is bounded by Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads, 99th to 91st avenues.

An agreement between the city and Camino A Lago established that a Peoria funded neighborhood park would be constructed within the Meadows subdivision on land purchased by the city. The agreement anticipated the benefit of the park being constructed concurrent with the subdivision construction, enabling coordination with subdivision mass grading, utility infrastructure and roadway construction.
