Betting on Bartlett: As cuts draw near, study could bring more water to Peoria

As water cuts draw nearer and a two-decade drought slogs on, Peoria is continuing its ongoing push to secure more water sources for future use.

The city’s newest effort is a Bartlett Dam feasibility study that could result in the resilience of Peoria’s Salt River Project water supplies.

The Peoria City Council unanimously approved Aug. 17 a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Salt River Project and other participating entities to complete this study that will look into increasing the height of Bartlett Dam by as much as 97 feet, which would capture more renewable surface water for cities like Peoria and the surrounding Valley.
