The Salvation Army introduces digital ‘Kettle Pay’ option
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Red Kettles offer digital donation capabilities such as Apple Pay and Google Pay now to accommodate America’s move toward a cashless society.
The Salvation Army is making it easier for donors to give back during the Christmas season by making a digital gift at the iconic Red Kettles, according to a press release.
Smart chips and QR codes on many Red Kettle signs across Arizona enable shoppers to use mobile devices to make digital donations, the release said.
Once “bumping” the NFC chip or scanning the QR code, shoppers will be directed to a custom donation page that accepts Apple Pay and Google Pay options, as well as a credit card payment option.
Online gifts will be distributed to local Salvation Army units based on the donor’s billing ZIP code. An email receipt will be sent to his or her mobile device, the release said.
Major David Yardley, The Salvation Army southwest division general secretary, noted this year’s Red Kettle Campaign goal in Arizona is to raise $3 million.
“Kettle Pay makes it even easier for donors to join The Salvation Army’s ‘Fight for Good,’” said Mr. Yardley in a prepared statement.
“It provides an opportunity for people to fight for the thousands of Arizonans experiencing poverty by raising money for Christmas assistance for families in need, as well as year-round Salvation Army programs, such as food for the hungry, shelter and clothing for the homeless, senior activity and outreach, opportunities for underprivileged kids, and much more.”
In its 129th year, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is amongst the oldest and largest charitable campaigns in the world, providing services to America’s most vulnerable populations year-round, the release added.
