Paradise Valley Eagle Scout earns NESA scholarship

Posted

Paradise Valley high school student Connor Carlson, an Eagle Scout in the Grand Canyon Council, an independent nonprofit organization chartered by Scouting America in Arizona, was recently awarded the Lawrence S. and Mabel Cooke National Eagle Scout Association Scholarship.

NESA scholarships are awarded to Eagle Scouts who have shown active participation in school, Scouting and their community.

Carlson's scouting journey is a testament to his dedication, leadership and passion for service. As the recipient of the 2024 NESA Scholarship, he will receive $25,000 over four years. He was one of four recipients selected for this tier of the NESA Scholarship.

Carlson, his father and his two younger brothers all achieved the rank of Eagle Scout; Carlson earned his Eagle Scout award at 14.

Carlson’s 12-year scouting career is marked by success, earning various religious awards, eight Eagle Palms and 61 merit badges. His roles have ranged from patrol leader to assistant scoutmaster, and he was honored with the Vigil Honor, the highest order in the Order of the Arrow. Carlson credits scouting with shaping his personal and academic growth.

“Scouting has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me realize that challenging myself opens up opportunities I wouldn't have otherwise experienced," said Carlson. "This scholarship will allow me to focus on my studies and future success without worrying about financial burdens.”

Carlson plans to attend Arizona State University this fall, pursuing a degree in engineering. His dream is to work for a company that develops products for outdoor adventures, allowing him to combine his passion for the outdoors with his professional ambitions.
