Desert Foundation Auxiliary postpones 55th annual Desert Ball

Posted

For the first time in its 55-year history, the Desert Foundation Auxiliary has decided to postpone the Desert Ball to December 2021.

The ball is traditionally held in December and a new date has not been set, according to a press release. The annual event was previously scheduled for Dec. 22.

Citing issues with the COVID-19 pandemic and the concern for the 26 debutantes, their families, their guests, DFA’s active members and associate members along with vendors, the difficult decision was made by the executive board of directors last week, the press release stated.

The debutantes and their families were notified in a video prepared by Jill Hegardt, ball chair and her co-chair, Jenny Ellis.

“DFA held off making this difficult decision as long as we could hoping circumstances would improve and we would be able to have a beautiful ball, rich in tradition with the high standards to which we are known to celebrate our 26 debutantes and their families,” said Ms. Hegardt. “Given the risks with holding the ball this year, protecting the health of our debutantes, their families and friends and our DFA members was critical.”

The 2020 ball will be combined with the 2021 55th Desert Ball. Over the next year the creative, dedicated and talented DFA members will develop approaches to accommodate both the existing 2020 debutantes and the future 2021 debutantes to create a memorable ball that is “twice the fun in 2021!”

The 2020 debutantes include the following young women: Christine Arendt, Grace Coffeen, Ellen Dannerbeck, Katherine Douglas, Madelaine Feldman, Megan Gage, Sofia Garber, Katherine Getz, Lindsley Gifford, Christina Glascock, Erin Hannen, Caroline Hink, Zayla Jacobsen, Caroline Liebes, Megan Marty, Samantha Maxwell, Gabrielle Odinet, Sophie Ohanian, Madison Osmussen, Kirsten Peterson, Grace Posorske, Kenzie Riddell, Cassandra Seminoff, Caroline Tetlow, Madeline Walker and Katie Weigel.
