A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with assaulting a school bus driver last week in Mesa, police said.
Hermenegilda Marquez faces one count of aggravated assault on a school employee, police said.
Just after 2 p.m. April 11 officers responded to 625 W. McKellips following reports of a possible assault on a Mesa Public Schools bus driver.
They found the victim, who had just dropped off children at a designated spot, on the bus with minor injuries, according to a release.
“The suspect boarded the bus and began yelling and threatening the driver,” police stated in the release.
“As the children got off the bus, several adults joined in causing a further disturbance. The suspect climbed back on the bus and physically assaulted the driver.”
A man entered the bus, grabbed the suspect and removed her, police said, adding she fled the scene in a vehicle before the police arrived.
Marquez was taken into custody on April 17 and invoked her right to legal counsel. She declined to be interviewed by investigators, the release stated.
