RED Development and Globe Corp. on Tuesday announced the groundbreaking of Goodyear Way, the major street infrastructure connecting Goodyear Civic Square at GSQ to the 150-acre mixed-use development poised to become the city’s new downtown.

A joint venture between RED and Scottsdale-based Globe Corp., GSQ will serve as the city’s cultural hub with dining, retail, residential, office, hotel and entertainment offerings. The Goodyear Way extension, on the east side of North 150th Drive, will connect the existing city hall building and two-acre community park to the mixed-use destination.

“This phase marks a significant stride in developing Goodyear’s new downtown. GSQ’s momentum is undeniable, as it continues to draw interest in retail and Class A office spaces,” said George Getz, co-CEO at Globe Corp., in a press release.

The estimated cost of the project was not released.

“Breaking ground on Goodyear Way is more than just a road construction project. It symbolizes something much more,” said Goodyear Mayor Joe Pizzillo. “We are literally paving the way into our city’s future through GSQ, the heart of our city.”

GSQ will include entertainment concepts, a mix of both high-end and fast-casual restaurants along with an eclectic mix of retail and specialty shops. New tenants include The Stillery, Bacchus Wine Bar, High Tide Seafood Bar & Grill, The Yard Milkshake Bar, Shake Shack, Over Easy and more.

“Embarking on this milestone at GSQ symbolizes the unwavering dedication to the vision of cultivating a thriving community hub,” said Mike Ebert, managing partner at RED, in a press release.

Goodyear Way marks a another step in creating the heart of Goodyear. The walkable urban center stretches from I-10 to Encanto Boulevard and 150th Drive to Bullard Avenue.

The general contractor of GSQ is DCS Contracting, the architect is Nelsen Partners and the civil engineer is Coe & Van Loo Consultants.
