A year after canceling its annual Fourth of July Splash Bash and fireworks show at the Wigwam resort due to the COVID-19, the city of Litchfield Park is bringing both events back this Independence Day.
The patriotic-themed Splash Bash will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Litchfield Park Recreation Center, 100 S. Old Litchfield Road.
Lifeguards will host relay races, cannonball contests and more in the rec center pool.
Outside on the Litchfield Park Branch Library lawn, attendees can play giant lawn games, cornhole, run sack races and cool off with trips down an inflatable waterslide.
Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty are scheduled to make an appearance during the event, and children will have opportunities to win prizes and take home patriotic mementos.
“This event is one of our community’s favorite annual gatherings,” Community & Recreation Services Director Tricia Kramer said, sharing her excitement at bringing back the event. “Families look forward to a day of swimming, relaxation and renewed appreciation for our nation’s freedoms.”
Splash Bash admission is $3 per person for those ages 4 and older who do not have a valid Litchfield Park pool pass.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase from several food vendors.
Evening activities
The Wigwam resort will host its annual Red, White & Boom celebration on the first tee on its golf club’s Blue Course, 451 N. Old Litchfield Road.
From 7 to 8:30 p.m., the resort will offer food and beverages options and a DJ will be on hand to spin tunes.
A fireworks show co-sponsored by the city and the Wigwam will close out the evening.
