The Buckeye Police Department received than $93,000 in grants from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The funding from four separate grants will help strengthen traffic enforcement and keep Buckeye roads safe.

The first grant awards more than $17,000 to enhance traffic investigations with the purchase of equipment to assist with accident reconstruction. Funding will also cover overtime expenses to ensure personnel are trained in how to use the equipment.

The second grant provides more than $45,000 to support DUI enforcement. These funds will cover overtime expenses and equipment including personal breath testers (PBTs) and devices to assist with blood draws.

The third grant dedicates $25,000 for speed enforcement. The money will fund overtime, allowing appropriate officer staffing to combat distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and other traffic violations that can increase the risk of crashes.

The final grant awards $6,000 to promote pedestrian and bike safety. This grant will assist the department in expanding its bike patrol unit in efforts to increase education and awareness, improve community relations, and enhance law enforcement coverage at events.

Prevention, proactive patrol, and professional investigations all contribute to effective traffic enforcement that can reduce crashes and save lives. Thanks to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Buckeye police has additional resources to support staffing, acquire equipment and training to help promote safe driving behaviors, conduct accurate, thorough and timely investigations and educate our community about traffic safety.
