Initial results are posted for legislative district 23 state house race with Mariana Sandoval pulling ahead in the democratic votes and Michele Pena taking the lead among republican voters.

According to results posted on the Secretary of State's website, Democratic incumbent Sandoval is ahead, polling at 48.65% with 7,540 out of 13,633 democratic ballots cast. Sandoval is being trailed by Matias Rosales and James Holmes.

Republican incumbent Pena, running unopposed within her party, has 8,135, or 100% of republican votes.

The nominees are vying for two seats in the Arizona House of Representatives where they will have the opportunity it to sponsor and pass bills on public policy, set spending levels and vote on issues that matter in the communities they represent in a two-year term.

The preliminary results are only counting mail in ballots and votes made in person will continue to be counted and verified.
