Goodyear to hold ribbon-cutting for Fire Station 186

Virtual event set for noon Wednesday, March 3

The city of Goodyear and its building contractor, Core Construction, will celebrate the opening of Goodyear Fire Department’s newest station with a virtual ribbon-cutting at noon Wednesday, March 3, on Facebook and Instagram.

Firefighters already have moved in to Station 186, a 12,587-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility on Willis Road just east of Rainbow Valley Road in Estrella Mountain Ranch.

Construction on the $9 million station, which was designed to ensure firefighters’ long-term health, was completed in December.

“This fire station is a reflection of the Goodyear City Council’s goals to make public safety a top priority. It will provide fire and EMS coverage to an area of current and future growth,” Goodyear Fire Chief Paul Luizzi said in a post on the city’s Facebook page.

In December 2019, the council approved funding for Station 186 and for Station 181, a $10 million, 15,855-square-foot facility on 143rd Avenue between Van Buren Street and Celebrate Life Way scheduled for completion this spring.

Among the safety features in each station are a decontamination corridor where firefighters can decontaminate turnout gear upon returning from a fire scene, a vestibule separating the “clean” (living) side of the station from the “dirty” (business) side and a personnel decontamination corridor firefighters can use to rid their bodies of contaminants.
