Goodyear Police have released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to lure a Westar Elementary School student into his vehicle.
According to police officials, the student was walking home from sports practice around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, when the student was approached by an adult male in a vehicle near the entry way of the trailhead near 18101 W. Westar Drive.
The man allegedly made inappropriate comments to the student before a couple walked up and caused the subject to leave the area.
They reported the incident to Goodyear police, who opened an investigation. Police believe this is an isolated incident, according to a post on the department’s social media.
The subject is described as a 20- to 30-year-old black male with short, black curly hair or dreadlocks. He was wearing a light red polo shirt with a collar, and was driving a white 2000s model Pontiac GT 2-door sedan.
Anyone with information on the identity of the subject, the vehicle or similar incidents is asked to call Detective B. Erickson at 623-882-7422.
Goodyear police encourage parents to talk to their children about not interacting with unknown people, appropriate versus inappropriate conversations between adults and children, and the importance of being aware of their surroundings.
They also recommend residents, especially children, avoid walking alone and to report suspicious incidents to the police as soon as possible.
