Goodyear honored for taking care of employees

The city of Goodyear has received the 2024 Global Leadership Award in Health & Productivity Management from the Institute for Health & Productivity Management, a global nonprofit organization headquartered in Scottsdale.

The city received the award at the March 25 council meeting for its approach to the wellbeing and safety of its employees for more than a decade.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition for our approach to the health and safety of all of our employees and their families,” said Goodyear City Manager Wynette Reed. “Our employees are our number one asset, and we believe wholeheartedly that if we take care of them, they’ll take care of our community.”

The city of Goodyear employs more than 900 fulltime workers and fosters a culture that focuses on what it calls “The Whole Employee,” a comprehensive approach that focuses on the financial, career, social, physical and community-related wellbeing of its employees.

In 2022, the city was recognized as the highest rated government workplace in the nation by the National Research Center at Polco. The city has also been recognized by the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Phoenix Business Journal, the American Heart Association, Cigna and the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

The city began its journey over a decade ago with the creation of its People Master Plan, an overarching strategy that defines the city’s culture. It also has a committee made up of diverse employees who meet monthly to discuss and address issues employees are dealing with.

“Our approach is intentional and deliberate. We want our employees to be their very best, professionally - and personally, and we want the city of Goodyear to be the best place they’ve ever worked,” said Goodyear Human Resources Director Lyman Locket.

IHPM Chairman and CEO Sean Sullivan presented the award to the Goodyear City Council.

“Goodyear is only the second city to ever receive this award in the institute’s 27-year history,” said Sullivan. “We selected the city of Goodyear for its exemplary commitment to the wellness and safety of its employees.”
