Barony of Sun Dragon hosts sewing workshop

Posted

A recreation sewing workshop is 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, in Goodyear, hosted by local members of The Society for Creative Anachronism.

The SCA is an international community dedicated to researching and recreating pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture.

Arizona’s chapter of the SCA is known as the Kingdom of Atenveldt, which is further divided into locally focused groups titled baronies or shires. The West Valley’s group is the Barony of Sun Dragon, established in 1983, and it continues to host regular events.

The sewing workshop, at 16113 W. Monroe St., is teaching community members how to sew a chiton, a kind of tunic that fastens at the shoulder worn by Greek and Roman people as early as 2000 BCE. Members are encouraged to bring their own supplies of fabric, buttons, cording, thread and trim.
