The Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee and the NFL donated $25,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of the Valley to cover the branch’s flag football program for 275 boys and girls for a year.
Glendale is home to two Boys & Girls Club branches: the Louis & Elizabeth Sands, at 4730 W. Grovers Ave., and the Swift Kids Branch, at 6420 W. Maryland Ave.
Super Bowl LVII will take place on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. It will mark Arizona’s fourth time hosting a Super Bowl, and the third in Glendale, after previous games in 2008 and 2015.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee Executive Chair Larry Fitzgerald and Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee President and CEO Jay Parry played football with kids at the branch in Phoenix and also addressed 175 kids in attendance.
“The Super Bowl is not just a game,” Goodell said. “People remember the experience, including the community efforts that leave a lasting impact.”
Additionally, Goodell surprised Boys and Girls Club staff member Michael Luck, with a pair of tickets to Super Bowl LVII. The club participant-turned-staff-member is one of the branch’s flag football coaches and has been dedicated to helping youth in his community through football.
