Glendale police arrested a man for allegedly threatening to rob a bank with a bomb.
Glendale resident Anekin Genesis, 32, was arrested on charges of armed robbery by presenting a demand note to a bank stating that he had a bomb.
On Monday, June 28, at approximately 3:40 p.m., patrol officers responded to a bank near 43rd Avenue and Peoria for an attempted bank robbery by a man possibly armed with a gun, who allegedly threatened to have a bomb and would detonate the bomb if he was hurt or arrested.
Police say Genesis can be seen on surveillance pointing to his watch and allegedly telling bank employees they were running out of time. Bank employees hid for their safety, and Genesis then left the bank with his bags empty.
An officer was advised by witnesses the suspect had just fled on foot.
Genesis was located nearby hiding behind bushes, where he was safely taken into custody without incident. Evidence of the attempted bank robbery was allegedly located with Genesis, to include a partially written demand note that he was authoring for another attempt at a bank robbery.
Genesis was interviewed by detectives and allegedly confessed saying he thought he would rob a bank to pay his rent money and buy a car. He was booked into jail on one felony count of armed robbery.
The FBI Phoenix Field Office assisted with this investigation.
