More than $126 million in federal investments are coming to Arizona.
Priorities and projects that support local law enforcement, flood control efforts, western rural water, “forever chemicals” removal, military installations, transportation, and others will benefit. These were passed as part of the first annual government funding bill for FY24.
These federal investments for Arizona will support projects at the county, city, and local levels that enhance the safety, security, and health of Arizona communities, including Glendale.
“From upgrading roads and water infrastructure to giving law enforcement and firefighters the tools they need to keep communities safe, these investments will make sure we remain the best state to live, work, and raise a family,” Senator Mark Kelly shared in a press release.
Projects affecting Glendale residents include:
Glendale Well Rehabilitation, City of Glendale: $1 million
Glendale uses groundwater wells to supplement its drinking water supply. This project rehabilitates existing well sites, including pipelines, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls equipment to improve water production, and quality.
Luke Air Force Base Child Development Center: $2.7 million
This project will construct a new facility capable of serving 250-300 children of servicemembers stationed at Luke AFB. The current Center at Luke AFB is aging and unable to serve the current needs of servicemembers and their families.
Valley Metro Electric Accessible Microtransit Vehicles: $1,382,000
This project will allow for the purchase of seven electric accessible small vehicles and related infrastructure connectors to provide more flexible transit options.
Valley Metro Electric Buses: $500,000
This project will support Valley Metro's efforts to improve the region’s air quality by purchasing five electric buses as well as the associated infrastructure to help transition to a zero-emission bus fleet.
