Glendale Elementary School District starts year with distance learning
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Glendale Elementary School District began the school year through remote, virtual learning Monday.
After considering a soft launch of in-person learning next week, GESD pushed back the start of in-person learning to Tuesday, Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day. The district plans to continue giving students the option for remote, virtual learning after in-person learning starts.
Students will be permitted on campus as early as next week because Gov. Doug Ducey issued an executive order last month that requires all public and charter schools offer by Monday, Aug. 17 “free on-site learning opportunities and support services for students who need a place to go during the day.”
GESD clarified on its website these on-site opportunities are not a substitute for classes and don’t require a teacher to be the one supervising the children.
“On-site opportunities will be available during the school day and allow students a safe place to come and receive in-person support in a supervised environment. The on-site opportunities are not the same as an engaging classroom environment and do not require in-person instruction by a certified teacher,” the statement read.
