Amazon’s new sortation center in Glendale is open for business.

The facility, located off Sarival Road and Glendale Avenue near Luke Air Force Base and Loop 303, spans more than 270,000 square feet and helps with critical package sortation needs. Sort centers are a critical part of the “middle mile,” or the period of transporting packages between Amazon sites prior to last-mile delivery for customers. Packages are shipped to sort centers from Amazon Air hubs and gateways as well as fulfillment centers to be sorted by ZIP code before being transported to delivery stations or last-mile delivery partners for customer delivery.

Amazon also announced Sept. 1 that it is hiring for more than 40,000 corporate and tech roles across 220-plus locations in the U.S., as well as tens of thousands of hourly positions in Amazon’s Operations network, and holding its biggest-ever training and recruiting event to help both current and future employees grow their careers. Career Day will take place Wednesday, Sept. 15, and anyone can register for free here.

Amazon has invested more than $16 billion in Arizona since 2010, and has created more than 30,000 jobs in the state in its operations, logistics, corporate and technology functions.
