INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
The body of Chenoa Nickerson was found Sunday by travelers on a commercial river trip along the Colorado River.
Park rangers recovered the body of the 33-year-old about 11:30 a.m. Aug. 25, nearly 20 miles from where she was swept away by floodwaters at Grand Canyon National Park. The body was taken to the Coconino County Medical Examiner, officials said.
Nickerson was reported missing following a flash flood that struck Havasu Canyon on Aug. 22.
She was last seen approximately 100 yards above the confluence of Havasu Creek and the Colorado River, officials said. The National Park Service conducted a multi-day search and rescue operation.
An investigation is underway by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
