Gilbert police roll out AI-powered online reporting system

Posted

Filing a police report can now be done from a victim's home or mobile device with Gilbert Pplice Department’s new online police reporting system.

Gilbert PD Online Reporting is a secure online reporting system built from Versaterm’s Community Report platform used to submit police reports for minor offenses and non-emergency crimes.

The software, designed to be user friendly, is accessible on any web browser from any computer or mobile device and is available to our residents and local businesses 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in 30-plus languages.

When filing an online police report, users will communicate with AI-powered virtual investigators that will guide reporting parties through the filing process by listening, questioning, and adapting to responses.

The following incident types can be reported online:

  • Criminal damage;
  • Hit-and-run collision (other party unknown);
  • Harassment (unknown suspect: random text messages/emails);
  • Theft;
  • Theft from a building (not a house burglary);
  • Shoplifting;
  • Car burglary (personal items);
  • Car burglary (vehicle parts);
  • Garage burglary;
  • Fraud and fraud schemes;
  • Graffiti;
  • Child custody complaints.

Additional rules are in place to meet reporting requirements but allow for flexibility.

Crimes that are in progress or pose an immediate threat should be reported by calling 9-1-1.

Once an online report has been submitted, it will be reviewed by Gilbert Police Department and a case number will be emailed to the individual. You are then able to request a copy of your police report online.

If additional information is needed, a patrol officer or detective may contact the individual before further investigation. All online reports filed will be addressed in a timely manner and will follow the same investigative process as in-person reports.
