Bashas’ is doing its annual Donut Flavor Craze Contest, and three Mesa residents are finalists for this year’s iteration.

The theme of this year’s contest being pop culture, many of the submissions are themed around different movies, musicians, video games, cartoons and more. Ten finalists were picked from two categories: five from the ages 8-17 category and five from the 18 and older category.

One finalist from each category will be selected as a winner on National Donut Day on Friday, June 7. Three Mesa residents made the cut, all in the adult category.

Danny H.’s submission, “The Swiftie Donut” is inspired by the pop artist’s hit song “Karma.” The donut is filled with strawberry glitter buttercream and dipped in hot pink icing and topped with a turquoise drizzle.

Brian V.’s submission is called “What’s Up Doc Donut,” after the iconic Bugs Bunny from “Looney Tunes.” The carrot-cake donut has a light cream cheese frosting.

Keyana H.’s “Despicable Donut” is inspired by the minions from the “Despicable Me” movie franchise. The donut has banana-cream filling and a yellow, banana-flavored frosting. Black goggles and a big smile adorn the top of the cupcake.

The winning donuts will be available for purchase in Bashas’ locations across the state for a limited time during the month of June. The winners will also be named Bashas’ 2024 Donut Ambassadors and receive $500 in prizes including gift cards, baking utensils and one dozen donuts a month for a year.

The runner up in each category (one child, one adult) will receive a $50 grocery gift card while the remaining finalists will receive $20 gift cards.
