Tire failure leads to boy’s death on I-10 in Chandler: DPS

Posted

A boy died Tuesday morning after a rollover and a collision on Interstate 10 in Chandler, authorities said.

At about 6:27 a.m. Aug. 13, a blue Ford Explorer SUV sustained tire failure as it traveled east on I-10 at milepost 166 in Chandler, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The driver could not control the SUV, and it traveled into the dirt median, reentering the eastbound traffic lanes and rolling over. It was then struck by a Ford pickup truck, DPS officials said

The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with “moderate injuries,” officials said. The boy in the front seat died at the scene. His mother was the driver, according to a DPS release.

The four people in the pickup truck were not injured.

No criminal charges are pending, according to DPS.

The roadway reopened at 9:40 a.m.
