Chandler bank employee honored for thwarting robbery

Posted

Erika Andrade received a meritorious conduct award from the Chandler Police Department at the Aug. 12 Chandler City Council meeting for her help in quick action in thwarting a June 3 bank robbery attempt.

Chandler Police Chief Bryan Chapman told the council Andrade was working at a bank in Chandler and saw someone approach the building wearing a mask, gloves and a jacket. The person dropped something, giving Andrade time to lock all doors before the person reached the building.

Her actions helped keep herself and 10 other bank employees safe, Chapman said.

Chapman said the meritorious conduct award is given to a non-employee of the Chandler Police Department for a “duty-related act of outstanding performance” that exemplifies the mission and goals of the department.

Chapman and Officer Ryan Stover, who helped investigate the robbery attempt and nominated Andrade for the award, joined her with her plaque for a photo, along with Council member Jane Poston and Mayor Kevin Hartke.
