BASIS Chandler gets national school honor

BASIS Chandler was recently announced as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School award winner by the U.S. Department of Education, according to a news release.

The awards highlight schools that excel in academic performance.

BASIS Chandler is one of only four Arizona high schools to win this year’s award and one of only 356 to be named Blue Ribbon nationwide.

BASIS Chandler is a tuition-free public charter school serving grades 5 through 12 as part of the BASIS Charter Schools network.

The charter places heavy emphasis on preparation for the competitive college admissions process. Students often take 11 or 12 advanced placement exams prior to graduation, the release states.

Earlier this year, BASIS Chandler earned high rankings from U.S. News & World Report, getting the No. 3 STEM high school ranking in the U.S. That publication also ranked the school No. 7 in the Phoenix metro area, No. 11 among Arizona high schools, No.18 among U.S. charter high schools and No. 84 among all U.S. high schools.

The release states the Blue Ribbon criteria includes student performance data, student subgroup performance and graduation rates. Each nominated school submits a detailed application.

BASIS Chandler will receive a award flag — to be displayed in the school entryway. School leaders plan to attend a National Blue Ribbon School award ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
