Arts leader joins Chandler Center team

The Chandler Center for the Arts recently announced the appointment of Sandra Bassett to its leadership team as the center's head of Development and Communications.
Previously serving as CEO of the Phoenix Center for the Arts, Bassett’s oversaw unprecedented growth for that organization.
She helped secure major funding, including a $1.24 million grant for the BIPOC Arts program, designed to foster economic development for artists who are of color of biracial.
Bassett also helped lead efforts to secure a $1.194 million City of Phoenix bond for the renovation of the center’s theater.
Basset has an MBA in marketing and her bachelor’s degree in business management from Kentucky State University, a historically Black school.
Originally from Detroit, she has made Phoenix her home for more than 12 years.
Bassett serves on several arts and civic boards, including the Arizona Presenters Alliance, the American Federation for Musicians Local No. 586, Downtown Phoenix Inc., Evans Churchill Community Association, and the Hance Park Conservancy.
She also founded the Hance Park Nonprofit Coalition, connecting local nonprofits with resources to support their missions.
Basset is an experienced pianist, organist, and alto saxophonist. Often seen performing the National Anthem at Phoenix Suns and Mercury games, she also regularly performs at jazz-friendly venues and events in Arizona.
She’s an active advocate and lecturer in the jazz community.
As director of the Sounds Academy Youth Motown Band, she guides young vocalists and musicians in developing their musical talents and life skills.
