Green bikes lanes coming to four Gilbert intersections

Posted

After soliciting feedback from residents for the past two years oon a green bike lane at Gilbert and Warner roads, a Gilbert pilot program is now moving forward.

Gilbert's transportation planning team has started painting green lanes at several intersections in town including at Gilbert and Guadalupe roads. Later this spring, motorists can expect green lanes at Val Vista Drive and Warner, Val Vista Drive and Elliot Road, and Recker and Williams Field roads.

In 2021, Gilbert installed a green bike lane at Gilbert and Warner roads as part of a pilot program intended to increase visibility of cyclists and improve safety at the intersection.

The green bike lanes are funded through a donation made to the Gilbert Parks and Recreation Foundation and is one way Gilbert is working to make our roads safer for travelers.

The town also is offering some tips for cyclists and drivers to better share the road:.

If you are a cyclist:

  • Continue to use caution and assume the driver does not see you;
  • Wait behind the other vehicles.

If you are a driver:

  • Yield to cyclists;
  • Check your blindspots for cyclists
