‘Powerhouse’ MCSO K9 Kimbo dies unexpectedly

Posted

Kimbo, a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office K9, died last week unexpectedly from a condition commonly known as “bloat,” MCSO reported on its Facebook page.

The 4-year-old Belgian Malinois was found unresponsive May 1 during a routine kennel check, officials said.

He was taken to one of the agency’s K9 veterinarians who determined death was due to gastric dilatation-volvus and splenic torsion, according to the social media site.

Kimbo “was a powerhouse of a dog, amazing partner and a symbol for the ideal police canine,” MCSO stated on Facebook.

“He deployed in numerous SWAT missions, assisted patrol districts across Maricopa County and kept his partner Deputy Stryker safe daily.

“You will be missed K9 Kimbo but never forgotten.”

Anyone who wants to honor Kimbo can donate to the MCSO K-9 unit at https://www.mcsoadvisorycouncil.org/mcso-k9-unit. Funds are used to purchase ballistic K9 vests and fund a retired K9 medical account.
