The latest scam consists of a letter with instructions informing you on what to do as a secret shopper.
The letter arrives in a large 12.5” X 9.5” US Priority envelope to impress you of it’s legitimacy. Also included in the envelope is a legitimate looking “cashier’s check” for $950. You are to cash/deposit the check and to use the funds in the following manner: You are instructed to purchase $700 worth of gift cards and for you to purchase $30 on any items of your choice. The remaining $220 is your assignment salary.
After completing the assignment, you are instructed to provide a picture of the items purchased, the name and address of the stores and to scratch the gift card and send a clear picture of card pin area with the amount showing on it.
If you do all this, you will find out that the check will bounce because it is not legitimate. You are responsible for all the credit card purchases. Any money spent on this “assignment” is your own money. The scammers will end up with $700 of your money.
