Swing Kings planning West Valley gigs

The AZ Swing Kings, a 19-piece big band, will perform with vocalist Jane Higgs 5 p.m. Friday, March 15 at Birt’s Bistro, 16752 N. Greasewood St., in Surprise.

The group consists of professional musicians who play the authentic sounds of famous bands who represented the swing and jazz eras. The band is directed by Lenny King, founder and former leader of the Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. The members of this group are residents of many of the West Valley communities, including Glendale, Peoria, Goodyear, Phoenix, Litchfield Park, Surprise, Sun City, Sun City West and Wickenburg.

The March 15 gig will have a $5 cover charge.

Two other performances follow in Peoria.

The Swing Kings will present “A Tribute to Bob Hope & the Radio Stars of the 1940s” with Lynn Roberts 7 p.m. Friday, April 19 and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Lane, in Peoria. The shows will feature celebrity impersonator Mr. Roberts, who presents the music and antics of Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Jack Benny and Jimmy Durante.
