“Pops Favorites” is the theme for the Surprise Pops Band concert 3 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at the Performing Arts Center, 15550 N. Parkview Place, Surprise.

Among the band’s favorites will be selections by Cole Porter, including “Anything Goes,” “Begin the Beguine” and “Just One of Those Things.” Also included will be music from movies and television shows such as “My Fair Lady,” “Chicago,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Hawaii Five-O” and “Mission Impossible.”

Admission is free but all are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to benefit the Valley View Community Food Bank, 12321 Grand Ave., El Mirage. The food bank provides a place for the band to rehearse and to store music and instruments.

About 5,000 pounds of food were donated by concert attendees last year.

The Surprise Pops Band began with a handful of musicians who gathered in Clancy Wolf’s garage to make music. From this small group the band has grown to nearly 100 members.

Doors open at 2 p.m. on March 24.
